Throat Singing and an Exploration of Culture

Showcase two: Throat-singing as an introduction to Inuit cultural activity

Throat-singing is an Inuit cultural activity. It has been said that Inuit considered it a game – the one who laughed first lost. In 2023 and 2024, throat-singing workshops were inserted within the online curriculum, with particular relevance to introductory and capstone student curriculum. The aim was to “teach students to throat-sing” which in effect meant a seminar conducted by two Inuit experts and performers (Heidi Metcalfe and Lynda Brown).
